Reflecting on 2022

Published on January 3, 2023

2022 was a busy year full of renewal and growth at SeisWare. As we reflect on the past year, a few things stand out.

People

Over the last year, our team grew. We hired nine amazing candidates in Sales, Support, Development, Accounting, and Marketing. We are excited for you to meet our newest SeisWarians.

This year felt like waking up in spring after a long winter of hibernation (COVID) and is it nice outside! We resumed in-person events and company meetings mid-year. While we have all stayed connected virtually, it still felt like a happy reunion. We even brought our Houston and remote workers to Calgary for three days of team-building activities, competition, and fun.

We said goodbye and good luck to some of our colleagues who moved on to the next step in their career journeys. An important part of our culture is the professional development of everyone on our team. We encourage everyone to take courses and develop new skills, which sometimes means growing beyond SeisWare and taking the next step in their career journey.

SeisWare Culture

We strive to be a great place to work, and part of that is building a fun and inclusive workplace culture. SeisWare’s culture was certainly tested throughout the pandemic and through 2022. There were concerns about how remote working would affect the unique culture we’ve built.

2022 was reassuring. We continued working in the office and remotely, putting a lot of effort into team building and training. SeisWarians got to know each other a little better through leadership, communication, and EQ training. We all learned a little bit about ourselves and how to work better with our colleagues. It seems to be paying off. The team dynamic is very impressive! You can see how much we care for each other and support one another day to day.

“Many companies talk about cultural fit while at SeisWare we want to add to our culture, to expand our views, and thoughts. The shared values are what creates our community and differing views, and life experiences broaden our culture. This helps to break down bias, both conscious and unconscious.”
– Murray Brack, CEO

Events

We brought back events in 2022. After a two-year hiatus, we hosted our second Hackathon. Four teams competed to develop the next big idea using spatial data, with support from SeisWare and PetroNinja experts. To call the results of this two-day event impressive would be an understatement. The teams blew our socks off! (You can read more about the Hackathon and results here).

We have missed sitting down with our clients over the past two years, so it was a treat to be able to host a client appreciation event in November. Despite the bitter cold, many joined us at National on 10th for great food and conversation.

Giving Back

Since the company’s inception, we’ve always been committed to giving back to our communities. Our focus is on local and children’s charities. Over the last year, we have donated our time and over $19,000 to charity! This year we built playground and camp equipment for Camp Kindle, made lunches for Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids, wrapped gifts for Cystic Fibrosis, volunteered for the Spindletop Charities golf tournament, and sorted clothes and hosted a lunch service at the Calgary Drop-in Centre. We look forward to helping our local communities again in 2023.

Expanding our focus

We’re excited about the changes we are making to our software to meet the changing needs of geoscientists. This means more integrated and expanded toolkits that allow users to easily incorporate more geology and data analytics into their workflows.

Geoscientists are using exploration tools beyond oil and gas, and we are here for it. We are growing and adapting to support carbon capture initiatives, helium exploration, geothermal project development, and more!

SeisWare is also in the process of updating how we license our software. We are excited to bring geoscientists more flexibility in how and where they use our software!

Looking Forward

2022 stands out as a year of renewal. There is renewed optimism in the oil and gas industry and within emerging energy sectors. We hope to see that optimism grow in 2023. From new co-op students to new software features, there is a lot to look forward to the new year!

Simone, SeisWare People and Culture Manager, sums it up nicely:

I’m excited, because every year brings new challenges and opportunities – SeisWare is always seeking innovation and trying something new. There is no standing still here!”

Thank you to our staff and clients for making 2022 memorable. We wish you a happy New Year and all the best in 2023!
